These kits are beautiful and intricate pieces that allow a person to express their creativity. They are also quite affordable, so you don’t need to break the bank before you get a good Gunpla kit to build.

New to This Hobby? What is Gunpla?

Gunpla is a very popular line of mecha model kits that are produced by Bandai. The name Gunpla is actually a portmanteau of the words “Gundam plastic model”. These Gunpla kits are based on the many different mobile weapons in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.

Bandai sells hundreds of thousands of these kits every year and they are the most popular kit line produced by the company. They are usually made of PS plastic, although other plastic types like PP, ABS, PVC, and PE also go into creating these model kits.

Gunpla is worth your money and time

Whether or not Gunpla is worth your money and time will depend on how much you enjoy building these model kits or displaying them on your shelf. It’s that simple.

Of course, if you do not have a personal reason why you’re building the Gunpla kit and you will not be selling them for profit, then you would probably see them as not being worth your money and time.

But if these Gunpla kits have an intrinsic value attached to them, then you will never see them as a waste of your money and time.

For me, gunpla gives a lot of enjoyment, time to level up my skills and to pick up new skills, get involved with a huge community and just do what I love.

Gunpla is one of the best hobbies one can get into, guaranteed!

Why do people appreciate Gunpla

Gunpla hobbyists like Gunpla for several different reasons.

1. It offers a great hobby to people of different skill levels

You do not need to be an engineer or a master builder before you can assemble a Gunpla kit. All you really need is to be able to interpret some simple diagrams.

Bandai produces entry-level kits which are great for beginners as they are much easier to build than others.

The joy in building Gunpla is that there are more challenging kits that you can work on after you’ve mastered building the simpler kits. The difference in difficulty is primarily based on the Gundam grade.

2. There is a wide variety to choose from

The Gundam series has so many spin-offs and shows that even take place across different universes, so there is an almost unlimited supply of Gunpla options that you can choose from.

Gunpla kits vary in different ways, from colors to accessories to different sizes. The decision now rests with you on what kind of Gunpla kits you would like to build.

3. Gunpla kits make for great display pieces

Not many hobbies can provide you with the great results that building Gunpla kits do.

Once you’re done building your kits, you can display them on a shelf in your home for all to see.

Gunpla kits come with a small display stand that will help you show off your newly completed model.

4. Building Gunpla is a fun and relaxing activity

There’s nothing that makes time while away as effortlessly as building Gunpla kits. Opening up a new model kit and building it from scratch is a very relaxing experience.

Gunpla is addictive

Gundam models are extremely fun and addictive as they offer a huge sense of accomplishment to us modelers.

When you’re done building your model, you would definitely feel very proud of yourself because of the beautiful creation that you were able to construct from scratch.

Also, there is a wide variety of Gunpla options that you can choose from depending on your personal preference. So, you never run out of new models to build.

These models offer a very fun and exciting experience for beginner modelers up to experienced Gundam enthusiasts. You get to use your creativity and fine motor skills in a very rewarding way.

After finishing assembling a Gunpla kit, I feel the urge to get a new one and start this process all over again.

Building Gunpla models can be a great challenge

Building Gundam models is not hard. You need very few tools and you don’t even need glue because they are snap-fit.

The entry-level kits especially are very easy to build as they have only a small amount of parts.

As you begin to work on higher-grade and more challenging Gunpla kits, you would need to piece together more parts. Basically, the level of difficulty of a Gundam model depends on the number of parts you need to piece together.

But even the more challenging Gunpla models just require some focus and patience.

I recommend that you get some good tools and follow the instructions judiciously so you don’t make any mistakes.

Gunpla is extremely easy to get into

Getting into Gunpla is not hard at all.

As I earlier mentioned, you do not need to be an engineering expert or a master builder to build your first Gunpla kit. There are tons of entry-level kits that you can start from to gain experience before you move on to the more challenging kits.

There are also many tutorial videos on YouTube and informative articles on the Internet that you can use to help learn more about these kits before you even start building.

Just know that all you need to get into Gunpla is a simple entry-level kit, a few tools, and a willingness to learn.

Gunpla is not expensive, making it worth every penny

Generally speaking, Gunpla is not expensive, especially when compared to other similar hobbies.

Although you can find some kits that cost a few hundred dollars, you can also find several quality kits that cost between 10 and 20 dollars.

How much you spend depends on the level of quality of the kit that you want to build as well as how addicted you are to this hobby.

The grade that is worth it the most

If you like very intricate pieces and are willing to spend a high price to get them, then the Perfect Grade kits might be the ideal choice for you.

They cost a fair bit of money, but you are definitely getting a lot of value with these kits.

High Grade kits on the other hand are much cheaper and very collectible. Asides from SD kits, the High Grade kits are some of the most affordable on the market and they offer a simplicity that beginners would be very grateful for.

However, these are two extremes on the spectrum and you may want to go right down the middle to find what is most worth your time and money.

The Real Grade kits fall under this category.

They offer a high level of detail that is comparable to Perfect Grade kits while also being quite affordable. These kits have great articulation, as well as color separation and variation.

If you’re looking for a blend of both affordability and a realistic look, then the Real Grade Gundam kits might just be the perfect choice for you.

Gunpla is worth it because you can do it your whole life

Bandai still releases several new models every year so you never run out of options to choose from.

The main reasons why Gunpla is worth it are the same ones that make it a lifetime hobby.

There are just way too many grades and varieties for you to try out and you can work on new kits for years without ever getting bored of building Gunpla.

The ever-vibrant community is also another reason why people can indulge in building Gunpla for such a long time.
